What do I offer?

I provide group and individual yoga sessions, tailored to beginners through to more seasoned students – or a mixture of both. Sessions can be 45, 60 or 90 minutes and will typically include:

  • warm up poses

  • an energetic sequence of sun salutations

  • standing and balancing poses

  • seated strengthening, stretching and restorative poses

  • a period of rest and meditation

These sessions will include twists, backbends and inversions, all adapted to the individual ability of students.

In my teaching I focus on technique, body and breath awareness, and modifications. I aim to create a safe and comfortable environment where students are empowered to pursue their goals. I impart my yoga knowledge on my students, giving them the tools to build and grow their practice, both in my classes and in the comfort of their own home.

What is Vinyasa Flow?

I teach Vinyasa Flow yoga which syncs physical movement with the breath, creating energy and warmth through both the body and mind. Vinyasa Flow consists of sequenced yoga poses which flow on from each other, strengthening and stretching muscles, and focussing our minds on body awareness.

Vinyasa Flow sequences have a certain amount of structure and repetition of poses, but can be adapted and modified to suit individual abilities. For each pose, there are several options and levels of progression, meaning your practice can change and respond as your strength and fitness improve. This progressive approach reduces the risk of injury, and builds confidence and self-esteem alongside the physical benefits. It also means your yoga practice can be fun and creative!

Vinyasa Flow yoga can increase muscle strength, improve flexibility and endurance, beneficially stimulate digestive and circulatory systems, help reduce tension and stress, and build your mental resilience against today’s busy world.

What is Chair Yoga?

I have also recently become qualified in Chair Yoga, which is a vinyasa yoga sequence modified to be practiced either wholly in a chair, or in a blend of chair and mat work. Chair Yoga is an amazing and innovative approach to yoga, making it infinitely more accessible across our communities. It is an ideal option for anyone wanting to practice yoga, but in particular is suited to:

  • people with a physical or mental disability

  • injuries, reduced mobility or age related restrictions

  • corporate and business environments

  • anyone who simply doesn’t want to practice yoga on a mat

Chair Yoga is a true form of yoga. It provides all the physical benefits –energetic movement, breath awareness, strengthening and stretching, as well as releasing the mental stress and tension. I was originally drawn to Chair Yoga through my own experience of being an office worker, with an aim to bring yoga to workplaces to combat the side-effects of stagnant professions. Undertaking the Chair Yoga teacher training has thoroughly educated me on just how broad reaching the possibilities and benefits of this form of yoga are. I’m excited to bring Chair Yoga to more Canberrans in our community.
